Question 4

Question 3

Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Above is a short video of 3 girls from each category of audiences answering questions about our music video. We were happy to find that each audience felt that the Hybrid Beauty band members could relate in some way to their age group, but like our Tertiary Audience said, they feel that they relate to the target audience more as opposed to their audience. Due to this, they all felt that they would look into the group more to find out new information about them and expand their knowledge.

Primary Audience (13-15) Secondary Audience (17-20) Tertiary Audience (23+) We created a survey based on aspects of our music video, Digipak, and over all way we presented a new artist.

In order to get a range of answers we created a survey that could be answered by a range of people with different interests, along with specific questions about our work.

 I asked other students around
17 - 21 along with adults ranging from
30 - 55 to get a variety of answers.
 Our Audiences:

The underwater shots fitted nicely with the flow of the video
' 'I like that the diving shots are in sync with the beat'
'The performance parts were great and the acting was good'
 'Enjoyed it, good editing skills'
'I liked the reverse swimming shots'
'I liked the setting of the beach and the vintage look of the video and how it smoothly flows'
These are some of the more negative/constructive comments we received:
'The other band members should have had more screen time'
'didn't really like the reverse shots' 'a few shots were too long'
'Bit bland, didn't have a clear narrative or genre of video'
These were the questions we asked for our anonymous surveys, along with the answers:

After collecting all the answers from our surveys, we feel satisfied with the over all opinion on how successful our music video went. Everyone we asked thought that all the water shots worked well and over all looked very professional. We spent a long time editing the water scenes to make them look more blue and brighter, along with making the background tiles look less dirty and unprofessional. A lot of people said that they felt Drea and Beth didn't get enough camera time, and the main reason for this was that we wanted to make it clear who the lead singer was, and show that Drea and Beth worked more on the music and sound. Maybe we should have shown more of them playing instruments to show their place in the group. When we finished editing, we got a lot of comments saying that we should make the shots longer, as it looked over edited, so we tried to lengthen some shots, however by doing so, we did get a lot of comments saying that the shots were to long - so over all we think that this is just down to personal preference, and that we couldn't please everyone. Some people said that they didn't like the reverse shots, but we put them in as we felt it went well with the beat of the music, and some people did actually like it.

Question 2:

Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Mood board, encapsulating the mood of the video and other ancillary texts We originally wanted the video to have a quite relaxed mood, to juxtapose the fast pace of the song and the shots. The dock and sea background indicates the tranquil scenery of the swimming pool, and South End. The repeated Yin-Yang represents the balance and harmony, and the opposite styles of music that created the song (slow, Indie song into a fast remix), but also the idea that each band member is distinctly different in their style and attitude, which is also shown in the images of Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé, and, Nina Nesbitt. These GIFs show the connection within the music video, within the swimming pool, colour scheme, the selection of shots in South End in conjunction with the swimming pool shots. The final GIF shows a long performance shot of Emma in the studio. They show the selection of filters we use across our ancillary texts, as well as our locations and costumes.

Question 1

Questions 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Release Promotion

As tomorrow is Final Draft Friday, we are releasing our music video for 'Black Beauty' for the fans and doing some special promotion. The video for the promotion is as follows:

Photobucket Images of the Group

First Draft: After Feedback

We decided to change the black and white shots that were in the video at the start as people were explaining how it didn't look interesting enough. We decided to play around with the effects and changed the color of the shots around.

We also removed the noisy grain effect on the pool shots and made the blue stand out more using the RGB curves color editing in premiere.

We have also included more shots of Beth and Drea to make it more recognizable that we are in a group and that there is not one main individual vocalist. This was the main feedback that we recieved in that the group didn't look harmonized.

News Page

We corrected some typos throughout our website, and added strikethroughs on our tour page to indicate the date having passed. I also re-sized different images on the Gallery Page, to draw more attention to different ones.

Final Digipack

This is our final outcome for our band's digipak. Since the last draft, we reworded the special thanks message, and also added a space nebula background to it, based on my initial digipak idea. We thought this would be great to incorporate into our design, as it added depth to the digipak, and also helps us differentiate between each panel.

Website ; Mobile Site

While making the website, we decided to also make mobile site to make the website more accessible. This is what the different features look like.

Our first draft feedback

Feedback

We received a number of varied feed backs. The average score was between 28-32 which is just coming into the level 4.
To work on

* The main feedback that we got was that people did not like the mis en scene that we always have black and white. They said that we should try and make it more colorful.

* We also received feedback about the fact that they don't think that the group look as harmonized as they could be. Some people are asking what the point in Beth and Drea are in the group and it isn't clear what they are doing?

* We also were told that the music room scenes are a bit disjointed and random, we should either maybe film more bits similar to this or scarp this and fill it in with other parts.

Good bits
* The editing was really good people thought. They think that the transitions are really smooth.

* They also thought that Emma's performance in the band was really good. They said that her lip syncing is of a really good standard.

Photoshop Work/ digipack idea

Here you can see how I have added the text of the song names to the back of the digipack. It took me a while deciding on the colour but I think that this fits well. We got some feedback about the black and white colours not always being great so I thought I would make this one more colourful.
Below you can see the start to our thankyou page. I have kept the majority of the wording the same I have just changed the background and the colour used so that it fits with the previous pages. I think that the starry black background is more enticing that the previous just plain black one.

Tour Poster Inspiration

Here are some examples of tour posters that I have looked at which have been created by artists that we have tried to use as inspiration for our group. In all of the posters the main artist is centralized in the piece. Most of the backgrounds are rather bare with just one color in the background. They are kept very simple and the black colour is used regularly especially in the HAIM posters.  In most of the posters instead of putting each tour date in a row the have just put an individual tour date at the bottom of the poster or they will put a couple of dates in the middle of the page with an image incorporated mainly at the bottom. Blacks ad Whites are the main colors used in these posters again so it will fit with the continuity of our piece.

Digipack Peer Feedback

Love the photograph where you're on the stairs, its so professional, the black and white theme is nice, not sure about the text, it looks a bit microsoft wordy I think there is far to much going on in most of the squares in this didgipack.

I think there is a lot to much to look at so if someone was looking at it in a shop they would not read all of it.

Good variety of pictures, introduces the band well. Could add colour similar to music video.

WWW: Great Hybrid Beauty Font! Great quality photos, perfect special thanks page and cool picture page. EBI: You lose the black and white like you did in the video. Remove the slanted on 'hybrid beauty'. Difficult to read some of the song names because of hair. CD is basic but effective but would be better if it wasn't on a black background. Special thanks page is brilliant don't change unless adding colour!

 As said above, I really like Hybrid Beauty's digipak as the colour scheme is brilliant and it really establishes the identity of a 3 piece group;

The hybrid beauty digipak also uses a lot of pictures. All the pictures look professional. A lot of people have used a black and white background, maybe use colour? The fonts and the pictures go well with the with the rest of the digipak. Over all the layout is really good and it all goes well together.

Middle panel on the top - not loving this font and style. The CD isn't too strong either, overlay a semi transparent image of the band in B&W to create stronger imagery, and the blue link doesn't work - try making it a mid-grey to complete the colour scheme. Overall, though, the layout is great, and goes with the conventions of the genre!

 flawless.

I like the fonts that have been used as they are very individual. There isn't much colour which means the digipak doesn't stand out. The lack of colour doesn't go with the artists genre.

i like the digipack but it feels very busy, maybe calming it down will help.

Maybe add in a lyrics page rather than 2 pages of pictures.

i like the black and white theme i think there could be more writing and less pictures

White text on white background makes it hard to read Copied me for the download thing, copyrighted it Font looks strange with blocks instead of gaps in o's

Fun layout, girly vibe. Black and white a bit boring? 'Special Thanks' page looks cheesy

i'm confused as to what the album name is as there is only the band name on it - does this mean it is self-titled or am i missing it? i like the black and white colour scheme and the use of the pictures throughout. the fonts and colours link together on each section and the 'special thanks' is a cute addition.

Good theme with black and white, interesting digipak pages. Improvement: make it fit a bit better into the boxes so it looks more professional

Most people seem to think that our digipak is over-busy, however most people also seem to think that it's too monochromatic, and that we've used too many pictures. However, a few people think it's pretty good as it is, with minor changes needed. Due to the mixed response, I think we should have a group meeting, so we can discuss the feedback together.

Website First Full Draft

The way that the website has been edited now is what we want. especially due to the continual use of the colour scheme. We've added new features, such as a live twitter feed on the home page, and a video promoting the our, which Beth created. I've added more items in the shop, and information about the girls in the "About Us" page. I still think the "Contact Us" page is a little sparse though, but we need ideas of other information to add. Emma also re-edited the footer bar, moving all of the icon links from the far left, to the footer bar, as well as changing the icons to conform with the colour scheme. I added our record label's icon too, just to make the website look more authentic. as of 02/12/14

Black Beauty Music Video Feedback

after exporting the first draft of our music video, we have received the following comments for improvement: We should re-think using black and white effects as it was a nice day when we filmed and the song is quite upbeat. The black and white makes it look a bit dull - the vintage filter over the top of the beach shots can be kept though as we received positive feedback for that The pool shots need to be brightened up a bit to really stand out. At the moment they have a noise grain effect over them and we received feedback to say we should remove this effect and just make the blue stand out more We need more shots with Beth and Drea playing instruments, as Emma is the main singer people were confused what part Beth and Drea played in being a girl band - to emphasis we are the producers and we play instruments in the song we need to incorporate more shots to highlight this Overall, we received a lot of positive feedback about our music video, saying it was very impressive and looked very professional. People generally liked all of the shots we have included and the cuts we have chosen to use

First Draft Of Black Beauty Music Video

This is the first draft of our music video. We've left enough time to get a range of feedback from a variety of people.

Tour Update

Due to the nature of this project, our band is currently on tour. We thought it would be a nice touch to tie our social media in with our given tour dates.

Editing The Website

We started putting together the website gallery of photos from the shoots we did and added a bit of information about the photographer who took the photos. We want to add some photos from our latest photoshoot that we did as they link to the image we are after a lot better. As we took these photo at the start of this project, we have since slightly changed our image and we want to show this on the website.

This is our tour dates page. We need to make this page look more exciting and interesting as the backgrounds and text looks quite boring and needs a lot of work.

This is our shop page with a few clothing options. We need to add some more options to fill the page and make it look more interesting.
