Here are some examples of tour posters that I have looked at which have been created by artists that we have tried to use as inspiration for our group. In all of the posters the main artist is centralized in the piece. Most of the backgrounds are rather bare with just one color in the background. They are kept very simple and the black colour is used regularly especially in the HAIM posters. In most of the posters instead of putting each tour date in a row the have just put an individual tour date at the bottom of the poster or they will put a couple of dates in the middle of the page with an image incorporated mainly at the bottom. Blacks ad Whites are the main colors used in these posters again so it will fit with the continuity of our piece.

NME front cover ideas
Here are 3 examples of NME covers which I have looked at in order to base my front cover idea on. I have noticed that in most of them their is a large focus on the front cover of the star centralised with the other information that appears written around them in a white font. The main story is usually in a different colour in bold. The NME is always in the top left corner in bold usually in either red or white writing.

The story of Rough Trade Records is an oldie but a goodie. In fact, the label itself is one of the oldest on our list, dating back to the dusty year of 1978. Prior to its inception, founder Geoff Travis successfully promoted and sold records by a number of punk, very early indie pop, and early post punk bands like The Smiths and Buzzcocks. At the time, Travis was also operating a record shop off Ladbroke Grove in London by the same name. This combination of a retail storefront presence and promotional experience ultimately led to the Rough Trade Records label. Once established, the new platform quickly setup a distribution arm that would service independent retail outlets across the UK, a network commonly referred to as the Cartel.

Playing with More filters in premier
Playing with FIlters in Premiere Pro
Emma played around with a different filter to possibly use over our video. underneath are the before and after pictures of the effect. I think that we should have toned down some of the scratches as they come across quite exaggerated, but I liked the over all look this effect gave, and I think it will work once we fiddle with it until we are happy.

Music song choice ( Tinie Tempah ft Ella Eyre Someday)
Tinie Tempah ft Ella Eyre
Someday
Someday opens Tinie's latest album demonstration, his words are that it opens the album beautifully. The chorus to the song was originally sung by Eric Turner but after some deciding Tinie decided that he wanted it to be sung by a female too add more emotion to the song, he wanted someone young, new and British and went with Ella Eyre.
The song is about people who go about there day as normal get back to work and carry on with there regular job but they dream that happiness is not far away. They will keep reaching for their dream and they will be succesful in what they do. Its about having personal goals and having a dream to strive for. Reaching for the sun is Tinies metaphor for striving towards happiness.
It's a very upbeat song and this is why I thought that it would be a good song to do because it highlights emotion in it but in a positive way and this is different to most other songs that might be chosen. It also includes both a make and a female so it would allow more audiences to interact with it. It also includes rap and typical pop conventions so it would be interesting to do because it mixes with genres a bit.
The lyrics in the song show that the character has gone from a life with very little to a more succesful one that they have created for themselves with nothing but hardwork. The lyrics are very sting and powerful. "W**kers hating on me cos I did it single handed" this line shows us that people don't like the success that this person has made for themselves. "Victory is the greatest, defeat is real sour" it shows that they never give in and keep going until they our succesful.
My idea for the music video is a performance idea, I think that we should find a dark room and just keep it very simple and have the artists standing in front of the camera moving around looking at the sky etc.
The idea would be to use lots of clever special effects and play around with the editing of the piece a lot. I was going to try a concept video for this because the lyrics in this are powerful and I had some ideas but they were to hard to work on because they required a lot of settings and people which wouldn't be available so I had to change my idea.
4 song ideas
1* Bastille - Weight Of Living (Pt.II)
I have chosen a Bastille song to be one of the songs in contention for our group to do because it firstly has very powerful lyrics. It is always asking questions about you that make you think. This is quite a serious song which may allow more people to emotionally interact with the piece. The video could show a person who is under the stresses of life and how things have become to hard to cope with and show the change from what that person used to be like to what they are now. There wont need to be any special effects in this as the lyrics should be powerful enough with the performance to keep people interested in the video.
Ed Sheeran ft. Passenger No Diggity - Thrift Shop
This is the second song I have chosen this is slow like the first song also but it is bit more upbeat and fun as it is just done off the cuff by the two and it turned out to be a very popular song, it was not meant to be taken to seriously and this is why it does not have a video. But the song is so well known that it would be good to cover it.
Tinie Tempah ft. Ella Eyre - Someday
This song is my third choice and I have chosen this song because it involves both a male and a female artist unlike the other two so it will involve both genders. The lyrics in this are very powerful and it allows you to make a strong connection with the piece, giving us good scope to be able to make a story for the video that people will enjoy. Tinie typically likes to make his videos interesting and catchy to watch so we could use some special effects.
MY CHOICE! Chris Brown X
I just had to do a Chris Brown song and this is a new one from his upcoming album and it doesn't have a music video at the moment and it is so catchy and upbeat. This will just be really fun and exciting to cover. The video ideas im not really sure of right now but we can use lots of special effect in it because it is such a energetic lively song that it is needed.
Music Video Essay
Mackelmore's video that he relased this year for his song Same Love told us a story about homosexuality. The video sent out a clear message about the struggles that people have when telling people about their true sexuality. It is a true story about the stuggles that the artist himself Mackelmore went through. It did recieve a lot of media attention and did turn some heads because their have not been many vidoes like this done before especially when it means as much to the artist as it does to Macklemore. I think that he was very brave to be able to show everyone how hard it was for him and what he went through because some people would judge him on this.
The video is meant to be showing Mackelmore as he is growing upit is meant to show how he has had the same upbringing as everyone else but he couldnt decide on the way that he has tuned out and he wants to make sure that people undertsand that as they get older they get discriminated a lot more for their sexuality, as he is older it clearly shows that he is hiding it and feeling like he cant tell anyone about what is hapenning. There are many shots that we can see of people holding signs about the supreme court as in this time it was not acceptable to be "gay" and there are also lots of images of Martin Luther King who thought for what he believed in and this is what Mackelmore is doing he believes that the way that "gay" people are being discriminated against is not right and he wants to try and be the voice for this.
There is a shot where two men are standing on the edge of a hill and are about to jump into the water together and there is a close up camera shot of the two men holding hands, it then looks down the mans foot which is shaking. The men are much happier when they are in each others company they are smiling and happy. They are walking down the road and then another man with his girlfriend says something to them. They then have a gay marriage and everyone is really hapy for them there is a shot where the two men are standing pon the balcony and all of thier family are in the background on a lower level than them
How do i consume music?
I like to listen to music as frequently as i can but the type of music that I listen to is dependant on the mood that I am in. I listen to music in the mornings before i got to school to either help relax me before I leave or I will listen to it to help me get some energy and wake up ready for school. I dont really listen to music at school. Dependent on my mood I will listen to different genres of music, If i am in a sad mood then i will listen to a song such as Pharrel Williams "Happy" because it helps pick me up and put me into a good mood. I would be extremely bored without the influence of music in my life, I will listen to it sometimes when I am tired to help me sleep or I will put it on in car journeys to help pass the time.
Music helps to influence me when it comes to some of the lyrics that I here I like to relate them to my life and I like to use them as quotes. Also different songs have different meanings to me. The good thing about music is that not everyone has the same taste and different songs mean different things to people this is what makes it special. I love listening to music loudly I cant listen to music quietly it just doesn't feel right, you cant get into the music as much as you would want if you can here noise around you.
Research for Music Video
In this video there is an example of a special effexct editing which i would really like to use in my music video. I think that the way that it flashes is very clever and would be really good to use.
Male Gaze, Exhebitionism, Voyeurism Music Video
Male Gaze
This video "Versace" by Migos is a prime example of the male gaze in a music video. Migos is surrounded by girls throughout the video who are wearing very skimpy costumes but they are expensive so it would show that the man maybe respects the women more.
There is then a scene where there are about 20-30 women who all walk up onto the front of the masion all wearing white clothing and doing erotic dancing, this is having a dig at Miley Cyrus. The man are always surrounded by women in the video it would show that they are almost props and that they are scene as unequal as all of these girls still dont get as much screen time as the men. All of the shots that we see of the women show them all very close up using slow mo's as they play with their hair etc to help enforce the male gaze theory.
You have two women who are just laying out on the grass as still as statues this would show that they are just something to look at and people arent taking much notice of them. Its like he has put them there to suggest that they are just an object. All of the women are made to wear white clothes and this colour is used to show off your figure more.
Voyeurism and the female gaze
This is an example of a video that shows voyeurism and the female gaze. We can see the example of the female gaze from the start where there is an image of a man without a top on and the camera uses close ups and slow mo's to enhance where the viewer is meant to be looking. We then see the example of voyeurism later as Nicki Minaj pours this pink liquid all over her breasts and the camera zooms in on them and they are on screen for a while, Voyeurism is used by artists to make themselves more well known by flaunting their body.
Exbibitionism
This is a good example of exbitionism - Lily Allen is a perfext example of a female artist that is strong and independant and can be a succesful female artist without having to flaunt her body.
Another Male Gaze Video
This video is a great example of a male gaze video, with Rihanna and Shakira in one video this tells you it all. There are lots of scenes where the two are showing of their bodies and inviting you to look at them.
Homosexuality
This video is an example of a homosexual video it is all about how it is acceptable to be who you want to be. Lots of people judged the artist Mackelmore for this song.
Music Video Analysis
No Rest - Dry The River
What the video showed:The video shows the men in the band laying on a dusty floor and then they are surrounded by stones they do not move from the floor for the whole video, as the video goes on they have a dead bird placed on there stomach and then start to have water thrown over them.
My predicted storyline about what i thought the song was about:
The man felt like a king with his girlfriend, he then lost her and now has nothing and he just wants her back.
My video ideas if i had directed the song:
I could imagine the music video on a beach setting.
The man is having flashbacks to them sitting on the pier throwing stones into the sea and eating ice cream together.
He then goes back to the place but he does everything the same just she isnt there.
He is sitting onto the edge of the pier crying into the sea.
